Introducing: The Spam Can Banner

Wow. Three comments on this site, and already I have one straight up “we hired an Indian company to comment spam on behalf of our SEO company” comment.

On my other sites, I’m absolutely cold-blooded about deleting anything I even suspect might be spam … but if I’m going to be writing about SEO and webmaster type crap in general, self-promotion is the name of the game. I’ve decided to let innocuous might-be-spam slide, so long as the comment is coherent, and the site being promoted isn’t ridiculous (and yes, standards of “ridiculous” are entirely up to my personal whim).

I’ve also decided that rather than deleting spam so that it never sees the light of day, I’m going to brand it! Look forward to seeing spam comments marked with the following footer, after I deactivate their URL link:

spam, spam, spam, spam Brought to you by: spammer.url (spammer@email)

Thank you, and goodnight. :-)
